🕊️ We Are Souls, Not Just Bodies
A Soul Transformed by the WORD - A digital artwork by Opé
We are not the body suits we wear—we are souls. Eternal beings made in the image of God. And yet, how often do we spend our energy perfecting the outside, while neglecting what we truly look like to God? My heart was about creating a way to help you picture the soul. You are not just the earth suit.
This is who God is looking at.
Is God PLEASED with what he sees?
What Is The Soul
Soul - (Hebrew: Nephesh, Greek: Psychē)
What it is: Your inner self—the seat of your emotions, will, thoughts, desires, and personality.
It includes:
Your mind (how you think)
Your will (how you choose)
Your emotions (how you feel)
What Is The Spirit
Spirit (Hebrew: Ruach, Greek: Pneuma)
What it is: The God-conscious part of you. It’s how you connect to and communicate with God.
It includes:
Conscience
Intuition
Spiritual connection
The capacity to be filled with God’s Spirit
What Is The Flesh
(Hebrew: Basar, Greek: Sarx)
What it is: The sin-prone, self-centered part of human nature that resists God. It’s the part of you that desires to live independently of the Spirit.
It includes:
Self-will over God’s will
Carnal desires and impulses
Pride, envy, lust, and rebellion
The tendency to gratify temporary cravings
The part of you that must be surrendered and crucified daily
TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL
Our transformation does not begin at the surface.
It begins in the mind—what we meditate on, what we believe, and what we speak.
The Word of God is the mirror that reflects our true identity and transforms our inner being.
📖 Romans 12:2
NLT: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
NKJV: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
📖 Philippians 4:8
NLT: “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
NKJV: “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
When we meditate on the Word, we are transformed. When we focus on what is pure, lovely, and excellent, we begin to look like the God who dwells within us.
So today, we pause to examine ourselves. Not to shame ourselves, but to become more aware: God is in us. He is not far off. He is listening, watching, cheering us on, helping us grow… or, if we resist, even grieving.
Let us meditate on the Word. Let us return to the mirror of scripture and ask:
“Lord, how do You see me?”
🛐 Prayer:
God, help me to examine my soul with Your eyes. Let me not be deceived by outward appearances. Transform me by Your Word. Let Your truth reshape my thoughts and reflect in my actions. May my heart be a place You rejoice in. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
✨ From Life-Focused Prayers to Soul-Focused Prayers
A lot of times we pray like this:
“Lord, bless my life… Help me get the job… Heal my body… Give me peace… Open this door…”
But when you realize you are a soul, not just a life form walking around in a body… your prayers begin to sound more like this:
🛐 Soul-Focused Prayers:
“Lord, shape my soul to reflect You.”
Don’t just change my circumstances, transform my inner nature.“Purify the motives behind my actions.”
Even when things look right on the outside, cleanse what only You can see.“Teach me to hunger for what feeds the soul. Your Word, Your presence, Your wisdom.”
Let me not settle for surface-level spirituality.“Break everything in me that distracts or dulls my desire for You.”
Remove soul clutter that keeps me spiritually numb.“Help me steward this soul You’ve entrusted to me with reverence and joy.”
Because what I build in my life may fade, but my soul will live on.
🪞Scripture to Shape Soul-Aware Prayer:
📖 Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)
"Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life."
📖 3 John 1:2 (NKJV)
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
👉 This verse shows that true prosperity is linked to the state of your soul.
📖 Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)
"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life."
👉 Our soul (mind, will, emotions) is the source of all we do—it must be protected.
🙏 A Sample Soul-Aware Prayer:
“Father, I am more than this life—I am a living soul. Help me to care for my soul like You do. Heal the wounds no one sees. Teach me to value what You value. Cleanse me from anything that clouds my vision of You. Let my joy not come from things, but from Your presence. Let my soul prosper even when life is uncertain. Transform me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
